The Obuasi-Anwiankwanta road in the Ashanti region has claimed the lives of 3 people and 10 others are receiving treatment after an accident that occurred on Friday 16th July 2021. The accident


In an interview with Mr. Akomanim Francis, the Headteacher of Atobiase Primary school who narrated the incident to ABN’s Chukwu Joseph said, a Toyota Tundra with registration number AS 4275 -21 which was heading to Obuasi from Kumasi collided with a Toyota Corolla taxi with registration number Gx 1910 -13. The taxi was going from Adenkranya to Jacobu and the incident occurred at the Afoako Junction in the Amansie Central District.

The taxi driver and one 73-year-old woman passenger on board died on the spot. The Toyota Tundra capsized and crashed into two Toyota Obama minibusses which were parked and loading at the roadside to Obuasi. The two minibusses had registration numbers GT 12 78-17 and AS 84 37 -14. The injured passengers were rushed to St. Peter’s Catholic Hospital in Jacobu and Atobiase health facility for immediate attention.

Doctors at St. Peter’s Catholic Hospital pronounced another woman 75 years old woman, Maame Kwabre, dead on arrival. Traders who sell at the Afoako Junction couldn’t hide their anger amid tears, lamenting why an uncompleted road could witness 5 fatal accidents claiming ten lives on the same spot within a short time.

“What will then happen if construction works are done on the 37km road,” they asked.

The treaders, therefore, called on the government and the National Roads and Highway Authority as a matter of urgency to construct a speed ramp for them to reduce overspeeding in the area. The Jacobu District Police Commander who visited the scene confirmed that 2 died on the spot and 1 also died on arrival at the hospital


The bodies have since been deposited at the same hospital’s morgue pending autopsy.
